Associated Press reported that Roblox will require facial scans for users under 16 in Indonesia under new rules for minors on digital platforms. The rollout creates age-based accounts and restricts chat access for children who have not completed facial age estimation. 

Insurance Journal reported Grant Thornton findings that insurers are gaining from AI but still face governance gaps. The survey found governance or compliance weaknesses linked to failed or underperforming AI projects, with limited confidence in independent review readiness. 

ABA Journal reported that Harvey will expand its legal AI presence with a new Chicago office. The move reflects continuing institutional investment in legal AI tools despite heightened scrutiny of accuracy, workflow control and professional responsibility.

Regulation

  • APRA published a letter to industry on artificial intelligence for all APRA-regulated entities. It identifies weaknesses in AI governance, risk management, operational resilience and assurance across banks, insurers and superannuation trustees. 

  • Congressman Blake Moore introduced the GUARD Act with Representative Valerie Foushee to regulate AI companion chatbots for children. The bill would ban AI companions for minors, require non-human chatbot disclosures and create criminal penalties for companies that allow minors to access sexual chatbot content.

  • Nature published research finding that training language models to be warmer can reduce accuracy and increase sycophancy. The article links design choices around friendly AI personas to reliability risks in user-facing systems. 

  • SSRN posted 'Artificial Intelligence Oversight: Designing Policies for Responsible AI Implementation'. The paper addresses responsible AI policy design and oversight structures for organisational deployment. 

Events

  • FutureLaw will hold FutureLaw 2026 in Tallinn on 14 and 15 May 2026. The programme focuses on AI governance, legal innovation, regulatory models and digital infrastructure in legal services. 

  • UNIDIR will hold the Global Conference on AI, Security and Ethics 2026 in Geneva and online on 18 and 19 June 2026. The conference will examine AI’s implications for international peace, security, governance, ethics and responsible practice. 

  • AI for Good will hold the AI for Good Global Summit 2026 in Geneva from 7 to 10 July 2026. The summit includes standards and policy work and will run alongside the inaugural Global Dialogue on AI Governance.
