Google says at Cloud Next ’26 that it is pushing further into the ‘agentic Gemini era’, with new enterprise tooling and eighth-generation TPUs designed to help organisations build, manage and scale large numbers of AI agents. The company also says its first-party models now process more than 16 billion tokens per minute via direct customer API use.
Reuters reports that Italy has one of the lowest rates of AI use in Europe, with ISTAT’s first survey showing 19.9% of Italians aged 16 to 74 used AI tools last year against an EU average of 32.7%. The gap is being linked to weaker digital skills and lower internet use.
Regulation
The UK government says in the Security Minister’s CYBERUK 2026 speech that AI companies should work with government on national cyber defence and pairs that message with a Cyber Resilience Pledge and £90 million to strengthen SME defences. The item keeps AI cyber risk inside a live official security programme rather than a general warning.
EuroHPC JU says it has signed the procurement contract for the IT4LIA AI Factory in Italy, including a new AI-optimised supercomputer, a dedicated European inference partition, and explicit reference to EU data sovereignty and privacy standards. The system is being presented as infrastructure for startups, SMEs and the wider research community.

United States Department of War, a new merits amicus brief filed on 22 April 2026 by the Foundation for American Innovation and others backed Anthropic’s challenge to the Department’s § 4713 supply-chain-risk designation, arguing that the statute requires a concrete and reviewable sequence of findings, notice, and alternatives analysis before a technology supplier can be excluded from defence procurement, while also noting the parallel related case pending in the Northern District of California.

arXiv hosts An AI Agent Execution Environment to Safeguard User Data. The paper proposes GAAP, an execution environment that enforces user permission rules over what an AI agent may disclose, including disclosures to the model provider itself.
