Impact assessment - A systematic evaluation used to identify and mitigate potential effects of an AI system on individuals and society, particularly regarding rights and safety. The EU AI Act requires deployers of certain high-risk systems to perform a ‘fundamental rights impact assessment’ prior to use, identifying ‘risks of harm likely to have an impact on the fundamental rights’ and corresponding safeguards. (EU AI Act, Art. 27; Recital 96).
